Accepted as a Volunteer

I got a letter in the post today saying I have made it through, and am a volunteer. I now have the difficult decision as to wether I will leave school, and when. I could potentially get a placement in September which would mean handing in my resignation before May 31st.

I have lots of forms to fill, a medical to have, dental check, training etc.

Assessment Day

Having stayed in Putney last night, I had my assessment day at VSO.

After introductions, filling in some forms, and overview of the day, the twelve "assessees" were split into two groups. There were three assessors watching the six of us. First we had to make books out of newspaper. They had to be a specific size and we only had a limited time to do it. Then we could talk about how to improve our output next time, and go again. It was all to see how well we planned, improvised, worked together etc.

Next a thorough interview covering lots of areas, including personal life. This lasted an hour.

Finally, after lunch, a role play situation based on a problem with accommodation in-country and who would you choose to stay with, and how it would effect everyone.

Last, a debrief about the day.

Now I have to wait to see if I got through.
